The history and culture of Berlin make it one of Germany’s most desirable focal points.
You’ll need to spend more than just a couple of days in the capital city to take it all in. So to get as much out of your trip to Berlin as possible, we thought we’d share a few treasured places to see and things to do while visiting the well-known metropolis.
Once you wake up…
Mornings in Berlin are pretty busy. The first thing you’ll want to do is grab a hearty breakfast before heading to Reichstag, the nation’s architecturally pleasing parliament building. Get breathtaking views of the city after hitching a free ride to the terrace.
Next, head on over to Tiergarten, where you can enjoy historical monuments and Germany’s first-ever Neo-Classical building, Bellevue Palace. Once you’re almost through the park, you’ll reach the magnificent Brandenburg Gate, a memorial to the victims of the Holocaust.
Now that you’ve had a rather insightful, solemn morning so far, go a little further than the park to check out the Berlin Cathedral to witness some of Germany’s most significant Renaissance and Baroque style architecture.
Time for lunch and afternoon fun…
Take a lunch break after your long morning to refuel before the afternoon’s adventures. When you’re all rested and ready to go back out, make your way to the ever-so-popular Museum Island in the River Spree. This island holds five very different museums. These museums feature historical artifacts, antiques, 19th-century art, sculptures, and late Antique and Byzantine art, and of course, ancient architecture. You could spend all day at the museums if you genuinely wanted to, but since you’re only in Berlin for so long, try to make an afternoon out of it.
Time to see what the evening brings…
It’s time to see what Berlin’s natives are about. Make your way to the city’s 13th-century public square, the quintessential Alexanderplatz. Nearly half a million people pass through the Alexanderplatz every single day. For a birds-eye view of the bustling city, buy a ticket to explore the top of the Berlin Fernsehturm.
If you find that you are through exploring and ready for a little late-night fun, the Alexanderplatz has a ton of lively bars and nightclubs; this is one of the most excellent ways to end the day in the city.
